Dear friends, family, and loved ones,
At the end of last year, I decided that in 2023 I would write a book.
I originally found myself quite puzzled at why I felt like now was a good time to write something. A book has always been on the list of things to do, but in my mind felt like “old folks” work.
You know… anecdotes that exude the wisdom the person has walked into over their life, sharing about successes and failures, methods, techniques, and tools they’ve implemented for such, and the whole bit.
OR…
The other end of the spectrum. Those people that spend their days and nights bleeding onto blank pages. The professionals. Known and unknown. Paid and unpaid.
They’re the ones you see every time you go get a coffee down the street. Same chair. Same confused, frustrated, but satisfied look on their face. The ones that love the art.
So, you could understand my qualm. I find myself in neither of these categories at the moment. However, I do find myself in a nearly ideal situation for crafting some words into a publication.
I say nearly ideal because I find myself in a situation with an abundance of time, but scarce resources.
My partner and I recently relocated to Berlin, Germany a couple of months ago and, I’ll spare you the details, but I am in a lengthy visa process with the inability to do any of my typical work — teaching embodiment practices, meditation, and facilitating group healing spaces.
That’s why I have decided to crowdfund the book-writing process I find myself in.
Crowdfunding, in my opinion, puts us in contact with the phenomenon that no person’s purpose stands alone. The heart’s work is not remote or isolated, but interconnected.
If you think about it, we’re always crowdfunding. Where we put our energy and resources collectively is what flourishes. Much of which is quite alarming.
What if we saw that our purpose, mission, vision, or even inspiration was nothing on its own? Not an island (maybe an archipelago..?).
What if we saw that we are a critical part of someone else sharing their gift with the world?
What would our world look like if we had a culture of giving from such a place?
I’ve thought a lot about my purpose in my life — maybe too much. Most of the time it was its own thing untethered to the context, relationships, culture, and world I find myself.
I believe if we are to create a thriving, sustainable, society I have to find a way to connect what I am here to do, to what you are here to do. What we can create from that space becomes much more meaningful for everyone.
Further, if I’m supporting you by supporting me by supporting you (try that 3x fast), who’s the giver and who’s the receiver?
Easy answer. The only thing that’s left is the gift, which opens a new reality for us both.
This is why I am crowdfunding my book writing process. Of course, I find myself in financial hardship. But moreover, the money you donate will naturally expand the field I am able to write in, which opens the possibility for something more significant to emerge.
So, this is one way I find that I can connect my purpose to you. Just by reading this, you’re adding energy to this manifestation. Here our purpose has intersected.
It feels good to receive your support as I attempt to plunge into the depths of my heart to bring something meaningful forth. Thank you for witnessing me in something that is extremely vulnerable to share.
If you should feel called to support me further, financially, I have set up a GoFundMe to receive your gift. There, you can also read more about my process and story.
Feel free to share this with anyone who you think would resonate. I appreciate your energy, love, and support. I look forward to sharing my process with you all.
With Gratitude,
Jaden
